Junior Instructor/ Sparring Instructor & Classroom/ Sparring Assistants

Current Course

We will be running a course for Classroom Assistants again this year.

There will be a selection assessment on Thursday 18th June 2026 at 5pm at Daventry Leisure Centre.

There will then be two x 2 hour training sessions. The first will be at 10am on Saturday 4th July. The second will be after the summer holidays.  If you are unable to come to the session on 4th July, you are unlikely to be assessed as suitable.

There will then be a formal assessment by an external assessor in the autumn.

Selection Criteria

Junior Instructors must be:

  • At least 10 years old;

  • A Blue belt or above; and

  • Have achieved at least one grade A or above - preferably more; and

  • A Classroom Assistant and teach regularly;

  • Attend an area training session at least once per year.

You have to be invited to join the course.

Blue Belt

Classroom Assistants need to be:

  • At least 8 years old;

  • Preferably Blue belt or above; and

  • Preferably have achieved at least one grade A or above;

  • Attend an area training session in Redditch every six months.

Selection & Assessment Process

To be a Junior Instructor or Sparring Instructor, students have to be a Classroom Assistant or Sparring Assistant first.  Once we are happy that a student is ready to move up a level, they will be invited to join the Junior Instructor/Sparring Instructor training course.

Trainees should note they should attend all the training sessions.  There is no capacity for us to catch up missed sessions.

Junior Instructors

Existing Junior Instructors/Classroom Assistants are welcome to attend any of the classes as a refresher.

Location

All the training sessions will be held at:

Daventry Leisure Centre

Lodge Road

Daventry

NN11 4FP

Final Assessment

After completion of the course, candidates will be assessed by an external instructor, usually World Master Nikki Line.  Students will be required to demonstrate practical teaching and undergo an oral theory test.  Students must pass the assessment.
