Umpires & Referee's Course Nov 23

385548354_356400010115787_2810220679083218254_n_edited.jpg

There were quite a few people who went to the officials course in Oldbury in November 23.  Some were doing Umpires, some Referees, and Mrs Robson was doing a refresher.  It was an interesting day.  We will be doing some of our own officials training in class too, so you can get some practice in a 'safer' environment than a live competition.  There's only one way to get good at officiating - and that's by doing it!  Both Helen Griffiths and Charlotte Easom were assessed for Umpires 2 and both passed.  Certificates will be handed out in class.

Black Belt Grading Oct 2023

Black Belt grading cohort Oct 23.jpg

These 5 brave black tags took their Black Belt grading on Sunday 22nd October.  Congratulations to all - another clean sweep - they all passed.  We might be a bit biased, but we think they were head and shoulders above the other students!

As its half term next week, we'll be giving the belts out in dribs and drabs as many of them are away!

Jackson White Taekwondo Display Nuneaton

A number of our students did a display in Nuneaton on Saturday 21st October 2023, to help Jackson White raise money for the Salvation Army in Nuneaton.  If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, you can do so here.

Another good grading, everyone passed.  New Belts, and your trophies/medals for A and A Star grades will be given out in your next class.  Star grade certificates take a little longer.

Sadly it was noted that there was not a lot of "Yes Sir/Ma'am" being used.  Please show your respect.

Well done to everyone who entered the World Championships.  Here's our competitors. Our students took 59 medals overall, which is amazing from just 67 students.  Mr & Mrs Robson's instructor, Jackson White, also took Gold for super executive sparring.  At age 69 that's quite incredible!

Win lose or draw, you have made us both very proud.  Congratulations to you all.

We got a full page spread in the Daventry Express!

Another great coloured belt and Star grading in Banbury.  Well done to all, solid performances from everyone.

Theory questions at the grading

Natan gained his First Degree First Star in impressive style.  He did some amazing jumping kicks, then fired off all his theory answers as quickly as GM Oliver could fire them at him.

He did such a good job, a well deserved star!

World Master Ralph Minott, former Olympian, with Sarah and Mark Robson at Daventry Tigers Taekwondo
World Master Ralph Minott at Daventry Tigers Taekwondo

Students from Daventry, Woodford and Banbury had an unforgettable lesson with none other than former Olympic Taekwondo athlete and 8th degree black belt World Master, Ralph Minott. The session was full of fun and learning, as the students got to experience the expertise of a true legend in the field.

It's always inspiring to learn from the best, and these students got to do just that. Congratulations to all involved, and a big Thank You to Ralph Minott for coming down to see us all!

English Championships - March 2023

Daventry Tigers Taekwondo at the English Championships

45 brave students and 7 officials literally braved the cold at the English Championships in Coventry.  We came out with 44 medals which was a really high ratio of students to medals.  There were 16 Golds, 11 Silvers, 17 Bronzes.  Two new Umpires also cut their teeth at this their first championships.  Whilst of course not everyone came away with a medal, we are proud of you all for representing your club so well..

Tim Chow visit - Feb 2023

Tim Chow, Captain of the TAGB England Sqad, with students at the special flying kicks and sparring class in Banbury

Tim Chow, Captain of the TAGB England Squad, treated us to two fantasic lessons on Sunday 5th Feb.  More pictures on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

The first lesson he taught us how to do flying kicks, and we had some great fun with the crash mats. In the second lesson, students learnt from the very best some top tops on sparring.

It was a great day, and from the smiles on your faces, we're sure you all had a good time too!

Thank you Tim for a great visit!

New Year Ambush 2023

63 kids packed into Daventry Leisure Centre for a taster event like no other.  It was so much fun!  Many thanks to all our instructors, classroom assistants and other helpers.  This is just a small selection, but you can see more on our Facebook ambush album.

Nicola Turecek visit

A big thank you to Nicola Turecek for coming up from Wales to teach our students at Daventry.  There were three great sessions for all belts.  Hope you are all able to walk now!
